Let me address your first point

The reason why the press talk of role models when we win is because winners inspire people.

If winners do it in the right spirit then it is quite right to say that they are now positive role models.

Losers can be held up as good citizens if they lose with good heart, but proper role models must always be high achievers who go about thins in the right way.

It's fairly logical really.
