Is it impossible for someone like Capello to say

look, Lampard and Gerrard are essentially the same player, there is one attacking midfielder role, may the best man in training win? I thought that is the role of a football manager. Yes both of those players are in your top 11 talent wise but they do not necessarily make your team as productive as it could be. Shit Gerrard is a great player but how much better could he be if he knew Lampard was on the bench ready to replace him?
