Saturday was ab fab
Invited along by a legal eagle who's a lifelong Charlton fan. Mrs Git placated with ballet tickets for tomorrow (BALLET!! ffs). A rare pink ticket for me and I'm so glad I did it!
V nice prematch drinkies and lunch at Charlton, their catering is still quite PL. I was forced to wear a rictus grin about the endless, endless Delia Smith/cooking/Waitrose jokes. When the n billionth cockernee car dealer covered in sovereign rings said "Sorry about the jellied eels, I bet you're used to filo pastry from Delia" I told him our usual lunch was - then tried to recite an mbk menu! Got as far as "mistlethrosh tongues basted with wilted ants" befor he realised I was taking the piss. My chum summed up the Norwich crowd in the longue as "middle class housewives with shrieking voices and farmers who look permanently startled at the speed of modern life" ... not entirely unfair ...
Anyway. The Charlton lot I was with (all lawyers) were actually very nice and very very keyed up about the game. They were amazed we had the faintest doubt about promotion, as far as they were concerned we were up but they desperately needed the win to overtake Dirty Leeds.
I thought they pretty much battered us (views may be coloured from sitting with Charlton lot - they said it was the best they'd played all season - but that was how it felt) and we really mugged them. Forster was incredible and surely is destined to play for England one day. Nelson looks fat to me, if we're keeping him he needs a serious pre-season. Strong bugger though. I thought Lappin was brillopads.
Post match depression from Charlton fans. They then dampened my mood by initiating a discussion about the upcoming Colchester/Norwich tribunal. It's a week today. We all knew the QC that Colchester have hired. He's very good, an experienced sports lawyer who often chairs these tribunals himself. No-one knew who City were using so I hope it's someone good. They are apparently looking for 500-600k and a points deduction ... so there was much teasing on the basis that it ain't over yet! (But we all agreed that a points deduction was a very unlikely outcome.)
Happy days ... just need the tribunal to be over.
