I think the gap between the top eight and the rest is widening

But also think global economic changes will militate AGAINST breakway Super Leagues and all that jazz. Stoke have done it two years on the bounce now; Brum look like firmly establishing themselves; Wolves finally can too if they stay up. If Coyle had stayed at Burnley all season, even THEY'D have probably managed it - and that's a far cry from how things used to be.

You're right about Liverpool's problems being key - but that's not a one-off situation. If they don't make the top four, those problems will get worse, and someone else probably benefit. Also, in terms of the Big Eight, look at Everton: where's their sugardaddy? They're just very well managed, like Arsenal; and Spurs are run as a sensible business too.

Manage ourselves well, make the right decisions and appoint the right managers, and at a lower level, we can do it too. We can re-establish ourselves, especially if the trend I've mentioned continues.
