Beware of extrapolating from one season...

Isn't it because Liverpool are relatively poor this season (and have been in decline for a while) that there's competition for fourth place? This partly because they have huge debts and because they've landed themselves with an apparently crap manager. Oh, and Man City have the biggest sugar daddy of them all. Villa have a very good manager; but they were easily turned over in the League Cup final a couple of weekends ago.

That the bottom half is s**t is not really a good reason to celebrate... It's not unknown for promoted teams to have a good first season - staying competitive is another matter though. Anyway, are these early indications that the gulf between the top 10 (richest clubs) and the rest of the Prem is widening? How long before it's reduced to 18 or even 16 clubs?
