and reducing the playing budget, which, almost certainly will happen as contracts renew and new players come in without ludicrous clauses, what steps would you take?

If the new brooms have come in and failed to reduce the playing budget, perhaps some of that is due to the contracts that couldn't be changed, so they've introduced measures where they can.

And don't fans always subsidise the club?
