the law isn't wrong.
As a society we've decided, over the course of hundreds of years, that we don't want people to mete out their own justice for offences committed against them. (As has every other developed country, as far as I know.)
You may think that's wrong, and wish we could go back to a system where 'justice' purely depends on how strong you are, and how strong the other guy is. Most people don't though.
