Exactly - they should have put Lambert on gardening leave

Just like Coyle in the Burnley/Bolton saga. Just like when Steve "92 Club" Bruce resigned from Palace to go to Brum in 2001.

They didn't. If Cowling had not accepted Lambert's resignation, and we could not have appointed him, all this compensation would have been resolved months ago, and City would have been much more keen to settle up quickly and in all probability it would have been more in Col U?s favour.

Cowling has made a huge error and the horse, metaphorically speaking, has long since bolted out of the stable door.

These things happen in football and in employment generally. Staff leave and staff join and sometimes the key ones leave for a competitor. Cowling has made the most basic of errors in failing to protect his own interests.

He's no one else to blame but himself.
