Col Who fans certainly seem to think we will

and that we deserve it....
I'm not sure how they get to that my understanding is:
1. We approach Col U in the correct way and ask to appoint Lambert as manager
2. they decline
3. lambert is told about this and says he doesn't feel he can concentrate on his job at col u and ask for permission to speak to the mighty City
4. Col U give lambert permission but insist that a contract cannot be offered
5. after talks lambert offers his resignation to col u which is accepted, along with Culverhouse's and Karsa's
6. we offer lambert and backroom staff contracts which they accept

now i am not sure what we did wrong, and the fact taht lambert resigned even says to me that is compensation payable??

Or have I missed something??
