At this point, O'Neill's well ahead

What he achieved at Wycombe was phenomenal: he inherited a mid-table Conference club, ran away with the Conference and won two FA Trophies, then went straight through the Fourth Division, then almost reached the Third Division play-offs. Lambert doesn't even have a promotion on his CV yet!

MON was also always cautious, generally waiting until he knew he'd taken a club as far as he could before moving on. Because of this, he turned down Forest - newly relegated from the Prem - to stay at Wycombe, newly promoted to the Football League! I hope Lambert is similarly cautious; because for the life of me, I can't see anyone being as successful at Burnley as Coyle was. And if they go down, they don't have the infrastructure to go back up; but if they don't, the fans will turn on whoever's in charge. That job's a poisoned chalice IMO.
