I have an external dvd rw. It's a nexstar. It cost ?30. The machine I use it on only has a

40gb hard drive running xp. It takes about an hour to burn a 4.7gb dvd. I just assume it's slow because it's external

It does the job. I can't think why it needs a minimum hard drive
