Its also spot on for me. Who would want millions to compensate for purely the emotional
loss of a loved one? I can't imagine ever spending that money.
How could you take any pleasure from it at all?
We had the chance to sue the NHS, our then GP mis-diagnosed my mum, missed her cancer then simply refused to believe she might be wrong, or take advice from a nurse (my sister).
My old dear, didn't want to make a fuss, so it carried on till my dad forced her to ask for a second opinion.
The second GP called an ambulance within 30 minutes of coming to see her, by then though the damage was done.
It took 4 years of treatment and fighting for it to beat her, but it did.
Had the initial GP had the courage to admit she might have been wrong it could have saved her.
My dad was told he had a case, and many people encouraged him to sue but he wouldn't. For him there was no point, he didn't want the money (although he pursued the error in other ways to make sure it was dealt with to stop others from suffering).
Being young at the time I thought he should, but eventually understood why. I suppose that colours my opinion now. However I believe, you should only take the money out if you need it, otherwise you are simply taking money that could be used for better things.
