The new Board had a deep conviction that his re-appointment was a mistake but were prepared to be proved wrong if the season started well. They took what they thought was a pragmatic decision.

After Saturday, they clearly realised that this decision was wrong, that they should have been ruthless and - to be fair - they were.

Would you rather he were sacked now or in January when we're 14th?
