Oh - I'll tell you what's a major sod to remember, too

by which I mean, the simple mistake I make the most, is to use 'il' when I mean 'ca'. This is because I learned 'il y a, il pleut, il faut' etc before I learned 'ce/ca/cette/ceci' etc.

So I asked Romain why they use 'il' in so many places where 'ca' would be more logical, and he looked astonished and said he'd never noticed, or thought about it.

I know our idioms can often be meaningless, but dear me, the french: 'tout droit', for instance......?
