What would I have done?

1. Bring in one or more people with backgrounds in modern business and especially football. In the latter case, someone who'd done a demonstrably good job as CEO of another football club.

2. Not be idiotic enough to give Crook and Butterworth long contracts; and politely refuse to renew Gunn's. I'd then expect the people with a football related background to commence a detailed, thorough search for the right manager, based on his prior record - to be appointed by mid- to late-June.

3. Change the brief I suspect Keith Harris was given; lower my valuation of the shares; and make proactive steps to find a buyer. Note Sheff Wed's CEO travelling to the US in the last week or so: would our board ever do that? Not a chance.

4. And above all, show in my words and deeds that the one thing I cannot tolerate is failure - and that in its event, no stone would be left unturned in order to learn the lessons and especially not make a bunch of ridiculous excuses.
