Practice, basically

Depends what sort of fishing, obviously

Sea fishing - spinning is a piece of cake, an 8 year old can be throwing out and retrieving a lure with ease within 10 minutes of starting. And the kit is cheap too. Bait fishing is more complicated and I think it's boring, so I don't do it though I sometimes add a sliver of squid or mackerel to my lure to give it added attraction.

Fly fishing (go for trout up there, the salmon and sea trout fishing is ruinously expensive) is trickier to learn since you have to get used to the fact that the weight you are using to flex the rod is in the line itself, not in a lump of metal on the end of the line. Get a DVD about fly casting, buy a cheap rod (get a combination rod/reel outfit, Google for Veals or the Glasgow Angling Centre) and practice in the garden or some open space.

By the way: for your interview you want a WHITE shirt. Not that faintly luminous number you were talking about.

And I love you because you know so many interesting things about words and language.
