The only answer I see there...
...other than heavy advertising on the site, is once their online footfall is far more significant than paper sales, introduce an annual subscription charge (that covers both EN & EDP - & Pink 'Un(!). As people have to subscribe to Waghorn's site and he's the only true local competitor, then people will have no choice but to sign-up for their local news...or buy a paper. They shouldn't be working (reports online) for nothing. This would have to be quite far down the line though, once papers are truly antequated by a community that thinks of doing nothing that isn't online. God knows how much they could get away with charging/we'd be prepared to pay, but that's their problem not mine. You'd also need it to be the norm with other news sites as well of course. In the future nothing will be free...
