Belated response to the "sad state of affairs" thread

I'm a defender of Roeder - you're not alone pants. He was his own worst enemy, and should never be allowed to open his mouth in public, but most of the decisions he made regarding player acquisitions have been good, and the standard of football we played improved markedly. No doubt he made mistakes, but he made a positive difference here. Those who've blamed him alone for our plight are gradually learning that they were wrong. There is no single culprit, but if we're blaming anyone, we should blame the players, but above all, the Chairman and the Chief Exec.

I would argue that a strong and capable Chairman would realise that Roeder was undermining his relationship with the fans, and tackle that before it became terminal. But, more widely, the appointment and dismissal of a manager are the biggest strategic decisions that the Chairman and CE make, and demand due diligence. They are the only decisions that they can take that can make or break the Club on the footballing side, and there is no success without succeeding on the footballing side. They have patently failed at least twice, with each failure weakening the Club severely. This is NOT prudent management in any sense.

If Roeder was the right man for the job, despite his prickly public persona, they should have supported him: if not, they shouldn't have appointed him in the forst place. Either way, it's down to them. I'm not "anti-Delia" (someone else whose positives definitely outweight the negatives IMO), or anti-anyone in particular, but everyone should take their share of the responsibility.
