maybe they're just not materialistic

my grandparents just never did the whole 'giving presents' thing, probably because their parents had huge families and couldn't afford to buy presents for everyone. So now, they give me practical things like postage stamps or barbecue cleaner (always with the price on) but they really don't realise that it's not quite right.
