My gf's parents invite the tightest people in the world for christmas every year

EVERY year they have them over (3 of them) and EVERY year they contribute nothing and bring no presents and have never thought about perhaps being hosts themselves one year. Well last year things changed. They brought a present for everyone. Each person got an individual wrapped present. Excitedly they all sat around and opened their presents......inside was a flower bulb. Stuck to them a sticker reading "3 for ?1".

Now this wouldn't be so bad but this family are pretty well off and have just inherited a fortune.
