I couldn't do anything to get rid of it. After days of trying stuff like system restores and the like I've just re-installed windows on it. Fine now.
You may be lucky some laptops (a lot of them actually) have a small partition on the hard drive which has the original installation of windows along with any software that was on the laptop when you bought it. If you have this you will have a piece of software someware which will basically reset the laptop to "factory settings" just move all the important files somewhere first then do your reset. Only thing is you'll have to re-install any other programs you may have installed from new and Windows will have to do a load of updating.
