not 100% with asian betting, but i guess you're right that the bets would have just got their money back as it was based on the 2nd half result. had marshall not made the error, then the bets would have been landed. so in fact, contrary to what i first thought, it only took 1 goal for the bet to win, making it more plausible for carroll to want to get sent off as didn't need to concede another, and if the pen was converted was just relying on derby not scoring. allegedly.
