couple of answers to couple of your points.....

1 and 3 - - can run more than one pc / laptop from a wireless router - ensure your pc and laptop are both wireless enabled! - that means you only need a wireless router - otherwise another solution is to plug in your pc to the wireless router and just run laptop wireless from same router.

2 - actually wireless routers work better/quicker if upstairs! the higher the router the better coverage over the house!

4 - buy an external harddrive, look on pixmania.com or do a kelkoo search - should get a 250G one for about ?50-70. Good idea to actually but TWO - back up your back up, as i found from bitter experience! (lost all my music files when my external hard drive went tits up!)

5 - cant go wrong with a dell - no shop to veiw it equals less overheads and better deal than say going to pc world or currys.
