I've only got this on friend of a friend basis

but if you do call in, they actually try to force you into a topic that's the hot item of the evening..
so you say "I'd like to talk about loan players at Norwich" the researcher will say "could you comment on the booing of players please"
I'm guessing that this explains a lot of the "how are you mate" and the "two points alan" you often hear, although I also assume that some people do get to say what they want (our very own bigfeller being a case in point)
