I agree with you Jim, especially regarding the

centre-back pairing which looked as composed as I can remember for a long time. Also good to see both of the centre-backs absolutely laying in to both Fotheringham and Hoolahan when Sheffrey was left unmarked and had the effort just over the bar. I've never been a great fan of the other two central defenders (particularly Shackell who is lightweight and poor with distribution) but both Shackell and Doherty were often criticised for goals conceded due to lack of defending from midfield.
