I think you are missing the point

It's not blind xenophobia. I worked there (Salzburg), and have since visited on several occasions (upward of 20 occasions in fact).

In the Tirol especially, and also across the border in Bavaria, you consistently find a higher than average number of people who are pretty much what people these days consider extreme, or simply strong right wing bigots..
