Italy and France'll then be in a position where, a la '04, they'll know exactly what score draw is needed to knock out Holland and both go through. Happily, the antipathy between the Italian and French players mean a carve-up probably isn't likely - but it certainly could happen.

And UEFA should get rid of this ridiculous rule: is it a round-robin group stage, or not? I mean, imagine Man Utd and Chelsea finishing a season level on points, United having much the better GD, but Chelsea winning the title because they'd got a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, whereas it'd been 0-0 at Stamford Bridge? Nonsense!
