But, apart from my mate who used to live in Nairobi & recommended Ngugi to me, I've never come across anybody else who's read him. I read everything I could find by him after I came back from visiting matey. My personal favourite would be "The Devil On The Cross" and, I think, Matigari. Interestingly, he used to live in Noel Road, Islington, where Joe Oton & Kenneth Halliwell also used to live.

Sadly, I've only read three or four books by other African writers.

The Hollow Men. That's a great poem I have to say, although the significance of the lines:
"Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o'clock in the morning"

escapes me ... And why are religion, love and death ALWAYS apparently intertwined in poetry?
