I very rarely blame players

I always think it's far too easy to say they're not pulling their weight, or whatever. Again and again in football, a good manager at a club run properly behind the scenes gets results. Players are like kids in school: if it's a good school and especially if they have a good teacher, they're infinitely more likely to succeed than at a bad school with a bad teacher.

For example: is it really the players' fault that we lost so many points during the end of Grant's reign and the interregnum under Duffy? The problem was we were totally rudderless, and they needed someone to provide some real leadership. Otherwise, why appoint a manager in the first place?
