not sure how widespread that prosperity was though...

by and large violence was everywhere as there was no one force with a monopoly on power (ie the modern state). People often preferred to live the simple life as they became targets for violence if they had a bigger, more sophisticated hut than a rival family. The pre-capitalist era was characterised by insecurity and fighting more than anything really. I hadn't heard of John Zerzan or any of his theories at all, may have to check him out though.
