Actually there is some evidence that so called primitive societies

did in fact have a decent life expectancy and quality of life - far from the "nasty, brutish and short" (Hobbes?) that is often assumed. I'm no expert in this area and don't have any references to hand; but a Google on Primitivism and/or John Zerzan should throw up plenty of links. I don't hold with his theories at all; but, if you can stand the rhetoric that goes along with it, he does present good evidence for the above.
