and that's porecisely the position players are desperate to avoid

thats why they tend to insist on release clauses these days.

So it comes down to how much the release clause is for. I would suggest getting one for £1.5m when we only paid £600k was a decent bit of negotiating on our part and reflects his relatively weak position (Earnie was in a stronger position, hence his release clause only getting us our money back and no profit)
