And I think the audience appreciate the irony and the absurdity, and that the humour is derived from how ludicrously out-of-touch with the times the act is (emphasised by the preposterous costume and intentionall awful delivery) - Brandonio's got the right end of the stick above.

Because nobody would find a gag with his Elton John one funny without any sense of irony. Did you honestly think I did?
