Another horror show and another Brucie cock up and another golden opportunity is wasted. Blues fans have been short changed by the midweek fixture schedule being sent to the far flung corners of England. Blues in response have saved up their worst performances to further disgruntle those of us that sacrifice the most.
With Mcsheffrey suspended Bruce could have just put Julian Gray into the side with the least disruption. Bruce however sees this as an opportunity to get Damian Johnson into the side and shuffles the pack to accommodate him. Larsson found himself shunted out onto the left and was totally ineffective. One has to feel sorry for Johnson who gives his all for the cause and was probably our most accomplished player on the night.
Blues spent 45 minutes in total control of the game and the neat passing and determined tackling in midfield was wasted by no-one having a clue in the final third. Only Vine seemed to have any sort of idea up front and he went off injured after 40 minutes.
Blues conceded an appalling goal on 47 minutes when Muamba and Johnson, competing for the same space, gave up the ball and Huckerby walked through a number of weak tackles including one from Larsson that would have embarrassed an 8 year old. Huckerby found himself 20 yards from goal with a clear sight of the target. His crisp shot beat Doyle who should have done better.
Brucie threw on Forssell for Muamba and went for a 4-3-3 formation. The front three looked at a total loss and apart from Jerome chasing down a long ball and firing a week shot Blues looked even less like scoring. The midfield which had at least held control was now swamped and having Bendtner on the right wing was ludicrous.
With 10 minutes left Gray replaced Bendtner and, what a surprise, Blues began to look threatening. Larsson now on the right and Johnson in the centre was where Blues should have started. Forssell almost marked his return with a goal and was thwarted by Warner and Jaidi failed to finish off an opportunity as the ball fell to him after a free kick landed in the box.
The main contenders to Blues title hopes were all were behind and all managed to salvage a point with last minute goals. Blues would not have scored had they played until their fans had got home in the wee small hours or until the same fans were up next morning for work.
Blues hold on to top spot by goal difference and as Blues players and as the players and management enjoy their lie in this morning the pack close in. 24 points have now been lost to teams in the bottom 7 places. Had half of those been taken then this race would be over. Blues fans phoning in last night were all of one mind. We are about to blow it. The 'best squad in Blues history got relegated' and the most expensive team in this mediocre league is near to squandering an eight point lead and could even miss the play offs if this trend continues.
