Yes: would be fascinating to know...

Just what proportion of cyclists down the years have taken drugs, and what proportion haven't. Because I agree: the challenge is so brutal that drugs ARE virtually a necessity - but that still doesn't mean there aren't some who play by the rules, and suffer unfairly as a result.

And I remember the shock in Phil Liggett's voice when Indurain was broken too. It was odd the way Riise had that one amazing year, yet couldn't sustain it. And my all-time favourite Tour moment? When Pedro Delgado appeared to have broken away decisively, yet was all but caught by Stephen Roche as the stage ended. Cue more disbelief on the part of Liggett!
