Might allow lessons to be learnt so the same mistakes aren't made in the future. There are numerous solutions (in my mind at least) that can be implemented to ensure the same mistakes are not made in the future - but it'll be up to the board and the manager to agree to them. Some suggestions could include:
1. The appointment of a 'football man' to the board (say Dave Stringer) to have final say on the sanction of signings for the board rather than the unconditional acceptance of recommended players by the manager.
2. Sensible contract offers (i..e one year deals for over 30s like Arsenal and Man Utd offer and win and appearance based incentives with smaller basic wage)
3. Overhaul of scouting policy - with more emphasis on lower leagues (including non-league) and reserve teams like we did in late 80s. Question chief Scout Alan Wood over his role.
4. Address the youth system - is the academy giving value for money? Should we revert to a YTS scheme with 16 years taken from all over the country?
I'm sure there are many more ideas which could be put forward.
