Without looking at it

If it is only on your laptop, is your USB port running as USB 2.0 or USB 1.1? Stupid as it sounds, some laptops either have USB 2 turned off in the BIOS, or turn it off themselves to save power.

Other suggestions; you could try optimising the database? Tools>Options>Advanced

I haven't had that problem, although I've only got about 3-4GB of stuff.
