I'll drop Duke of York a line. As for my PhD: it's on George Canning and the 'Canningites' (cue eyes glazing over of most reading this): to be fair, it's not so much 19th century history that's the problem, as that I'm just plain worn out of academia (I've been studying for almost a decade now), and need a change. There's only so long you can go on researching, painstakingly redrafting chapters, writing footnotes etc, before it all gets a bit much - and in terms of future salary, it's hardly worth it either.

Moral? If I'm not doing something I'm truly passionate about, life can get pretty wearisome - hence the shift in my priorities. Fingers crossed it all works out - with my blog just a first step, basically.
