My argument is that the opiate of the people is changing

whereas two hundred, even one hundred years ago, religion was undoubtedly the main form of escapism for people. As science has progressed and is continuing to destroy religion, in much of the world, the working classes are turning towards alternative forms of escapism to find release from the repression they face in their quest for self determination.
