then for the 1st time I will question the board given his track record and market value (Koumas cost ?1m). In a way I admire their loyalty to Worthless and I can see the argument for giving him 1 last chance, however in my opinion it had to be based on certain conditions.
1) I'm astonished that after the season ended Worthless did not work flat out to bring in his targets in order to demonstrate to the fans that improvements will be made.
2) It's been mentioned on here that one of the (numerous) excuses we were constantly fed last season was that the new players needed time to gel together - yet pre-season has started and there are no new recruits.
3) Shithouse flops from last season are still here - not only that but Worthless is today predicting great things from 1-goal pensioner-sensation Peter Thorne. WHY IS HE STILL AT THE CLUB?! Eddy and Sven were 10 times the player when they were released.
4) The quality of player that we seem to be chasing just isn't acceptable. I recall the club promising that any signings made would be with one eye on the future - if (!) we were to get promoted, how many of the likes of Andy Hughes, MLJ, Colin, Robinson, Howard (?), Chadwick (?) would be good enough for the Premier League? The reason West Ham and Wigan did so well last season was that they merely added a touch of class to already strong and ready squads. We would need a complete revamp.
What galls me the most is that this summer mirrors last year's so much - the parachute payments will soon be exhausted and we have nothing to show for it apart from a corner infill and Earnie - what use will they be when one is empty and the other is demanding a move to the Prem in Jan when we're floundering mid-table?!
The board have taken a gamble by letting Worthless use our last chance at promotion and they should be putting pressure on him to deliver whilst questioning his transfer targets.
They're also clearly not listening to the fans; last season's disappointment was as much rooted in the style of football we played as the crap results achieved. Pretty much every fan you speak to will identify the holes in our squad, but I'm fairly sure Worthless is too stubborn to admit to them - his comments about there being no right wingers available made my f**king blood boil.
We'll be lucky to finish top half this season judging by how other teams have got their act together - I fully expect Worthless to be gone by January along with all our money giving the new manager f**k all to work with and 6 months of polishing a turd until next summer when he can have a clearout. Southampton did this already and are now ready for the new season and a promotion push.
He could prove me totally wrong but that's about as likely as us winning at Leeds on the opening day.
