When we were talking about gooal-line technology (everyone, I mean, not just on here) we often heard the same argument Barry B cites above.

And it's a valid argument, too: but I maintain that in a Closed Tourney like the World Cup it'd be entirely correct to use greater control than in the park game. It's a straightforward standpoint which goes along the lines of: if Silplastics are playing White Rose Rangers and a valid goal is disallowed by a fat old control freak with a grudge, who apart from the actual players is really affected?
