Cricket can't really compete with football for the top sporting talent

But I think that's true through most of the world (India excepted).

I don't think our players are as far off as you suggest. But we don't prioritise longer form cricket in any way, and we need to maintain a route for players to come up through the county system.

The Hundred has not helped to develop any players (actually, that's not true, it's been great for the women's team).

To compete in the Ashes we'd really need to have a way for our players to play at a decent level in Aus. But while we offer those routes for them it's not even.

The international circuit is unrelenting and tbh it's hard to care as the number of games just fly by relentlessly.

Anathema to say on a sport forum, but we need less sport in general. There's not enough time between games to begin to care.
