It depends on your view as to whether we have any hope of staying up

If relegation is inevitable regardless, the correct long-term strategy is probably to sack Knapper now, appoint his successor in due course with a view to planning for the summer transfer window and appointment of a new manager at that point.

If we think that there is a chance of avoiding relegation, we sack Manning now, hope for a new manager bounce to keep us in the relegation fight and throw some cash at the January window, and sack Knapper after that.
