If you were Attasanio what would you do?

I think that I would sack Knapper and get some support / advice on finding a new sporting director.

That would mean leaving Manning in place for the time being unless he resigns.

A new sporting director can then come in and quickly review the operations before deciding what to do.

If Manning is still s**t then he can find his own replacement - even as a caretaker for the rest of the season.

The alternatives are

1) Get rid of Manning but let Knapper pick the replacement

2) Get rid of both which would be a complete vacuum.

We also need to address overall goverance but that can wait a bit longer
