Loads of big names went there pre-tour or when they were working through a new album for the first time 'live' as it was so (relatively) away from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool et al, none of the main music journalists or papers etc could be arsed to get up, down or over there for just a night or two, so they could rehearse a set list, new tracks etc and be as s**t as they liked, no-one noticed.
Once things were a bit more polished they'd feel able to play at the bigger venues. Motorhead at Hammy Odeon was one thing, Motorhead on a cold Tuesday night at West Runton Pavillion quite another....
