CSEs at a secondary, went to tech for BTEC/ONC/HNC type thing

access/foundation course, on to university.

Much as I like disagreeing with USAC, there are other routes as he's outlined.

One of the people in my tutorial group hadn't done A levels but had a BTEC, which was really unusual at university then, but he went on to do a PhD under a Nobel Prize Winner.
