Heart rate is variable, you'll go for an easy day and have a high heart rate. Other times you can really push and have a comparatively low heart rate just from being really well rested. It's not that I think accurate HR data is unnecessary, just that you can tell most of what you need to know from listening to your body. Anyway, always the case that the faster you run the harder you're working so it's about knowing what you can / want to do on a given day.
