Part of the problem was that the club had gone all in on some very dodgy signings

Kabak, Normann, PLM, Gilmour and Tzolis/Sargent who were too young and used incorrectly to actually get anything from them that season.

I suppose board/Webber thought a different manager may have got something out of them with a different approach and setup but that was always asking a lot, especially with Smith and the injuries. That season was really ruinous in a lot of ways.
