After Leeds smashed us at carrow road in farke’s second season, I posted on here that I didn’t think his approach would ever work for NCFC as we had to be perfect to win matches. We were actually good in that game, despite losing 3-0.
Obviously I was completely wrong about that, or hadn’t factored in the extent to which pukki and buendia would combine which made being “perfect” possible, by championship standards anyway.
But that issue of needing to be perfect to just have a chance of winning a game was a problem when we took it up to the PL. We did manage it on some notable occasions (Newcastle and Man City) but generally we made too many errors because our style asked too much of players that didn’t have the ability to do it at that level.
Long winded ramble to say you’re exactly right.
Really, we could have done with selling emi after our first pl relegation, and revamping the squad at that time. Including replacing pukki. However, if we’d done that we as fans would have missed out on some brilliant (behind closed doors) football and we probably wouldn’t have won the league. Revamping after being promoted was never going to work out.
