but I think the beeb does a very decent job attempting it - and I'm sure we'd be very much worse off without it

People like Lineker don't help it though I'm afraid, because they undermine its claims to impartiality - in fact his comments don't really help anyone with anything because when it comes down to it he's an ex footballer, and his political views, whilst no doubt dear to him, are or should be fantastically irrelevant to almost everyone else. But twitter.
